The mission of Flora ID is to encourage, promote, and facilitate botanical education, plant identification, research, and awareness. We encourage diversity on our volunteer board, and in our process of providing grants to further our mission.
In 2016, the opportunity arose for several people with like interests to collaborate in creating a nonprofit organization to focus on botanical awareness, education, research, plant identification tools and plant surveys. This organization came into being in January, 2017. The rights to develop and produce the keys created by Flora ID Northwest have been given to the nonprofit organization, which ensures the previous work of Flora ID Northwest will continue as a part of the overall purpose of the new nonprofit. The plant identification keys are built on over 25 years of experience creating interactive plant identification software.
A major interest of Flora ID is botanical education, including tools and programs to enable, support, and encourage botanical education in elementary and secondary schools. This ties in with a commitment to provide the best possible plant identification software. Simplified keys for use by younger students will hopefully be a new addition to the plant software.
Flora ID apps have 99+% of the vascular plants known to grow wild for each state, province or regions we cover.
All of our Windows and Android software has the same functionality, though they differ in presentation.
All proceeds from the sale of apps and pc keys go to support botanical education, research, and development of identification tools. Donations are tax deductible!
In January, 2017, we became a non-profit organization producing and distributing the plant keys of Flora ID NorthWest that existed from 1994 to 2016.
